It’s one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is: it depends on why you’re coming in. Not a satisfying answer on its own, so here’s how we’d actually think it through.
If you’re dealing with a specific issue
A tight lower back from a move, shoulders that have been locked since a stressful work sprint, a knee that’s been favoring one side — acute, localized tension usually responds best to a short run of closer-together sessions. Weekly for two or three weeks, then tapering to every other week once things loosen, is a common pattern. The goal is to catch the tension before it resets between visits.
If it’s general maintenance
For guests who aren’t chasing a specific problem — just keeping a body that sits at a desk, trains regularly, or carries ordinary daily tension from tightening up — monthly is a reasonable baseline. Some people find every three to four weeks keeps them consistently loose without it becoming another thing to schedule around.
If it’s stress relief more than pain relief
This is the case where frequency matters less than consistency. An hour that’s genuinely yours, on a schedule you can actually keep, does more good than an aggressive schedule you abandon after a month. Some of our regulars book the same evening every week; others come every six weeks and that’s exactly right for them.
The honest bottom line
There’s no wrong frequency as long as it’s sustainable and it’s actually addressing what you need it to. If you’re not sure, it’s a reasonable thing to ask about in the room — a good therapist can tell fairly quickly whether your tension is the kind that wants weekly attention or monthly upkeep.
