Hot stone work often gets filed under “nice extra,” which undersells it. The heat isn’t just pleasant — it changes how your muscles respond to pressure, which is why it’s one of our most-requested add-ons.
Why heat helps before pressure does
Warmth increases blood flow to the muscle and encourages tissue to relax before any deep pressure is applied. Practically, that means a therapist can work into tight, guarded muscle with less discomfort than going in cold — the tissue is already more receptive by the time deeper work starts.
Who it’s especially good for
Guests with chronically tight muscles — the kind that stay tense even after a normal massage — tend to notice the biggest difference. It’s also a good fit if you run cold, tend to feel chilly on the table, or simply prefer a gentler-feeling session that still reaches deep tension.
What to expect if you’ve never tried it
Smooth, heated stones are used either as an extension of the therapist’s hands — gliding warmth across tense areas — or occasionally rested briefly on the body to let heat sink in before massage continues. Temperature is always checked with you first; it should feel warm and comforting, never hot.
Adding it to your session
Hot stone is included at no extra charge with any massage at Ember Spa — just mention it when you book, or ask your therapist to work it in once you’re in the room.
